Oktay tells Gor to be cautious in derby showdown

Gor Mahia FC head coach Hassan Oktay has warned to give their clash against Leopards the respect it deserves lest they are made to pay for underrating their limping rivals.

Leopards are enduring some of the poorest run of forms in the Kenyan Premier League and while Gor are enjoying an upsurge, Oktay has warned form counts for little during derby encounters.

“Derbies do not depend on team form. In a derby, anything can happen; any team can win so we need to be cautious,” Oktay said.

Gor’s team manager Jolawi Obondo held the same views as Oktay, saying wins have historically gone either way and they should expect a tough derby fight.

“We are well prepared and will use this match as preparation for the Angolan CAF match. A win in this derby will so much motivate our players ahead of the Petro Atletico face-off next week,” Obondo offered.

Oktay has used Jacques Tuyisenge sparingly in league assignments in order to preserve him for continental action but with the Rwandese striker suspended for Gor’s next CAF assignment, he is likely to be handed a start.

Tuyisenge and his teammate Philemon Otieno, both who shone in Gor’s 4-2 victory over Zamalek last Sunday, are suspended having accumulated back to back yellow cards in a CAF organised competition and are thus unavailable to feature against Petro on Wednesday.

After a torrid start to the new season, Leopards fired Serbian coach Marco Vasilijevic and replaced him with Rwandan Andrew Casa Mbungo who will take charge of his second match against Gor.
