Okullo brace puts Vihiga top, All Stars pummel Bidco
A Patrick Okullo brace helped elevate Vihiga United to the summit of the National Super League (NSL) for the first time this season following their convincing 3-0 win over Kibera Black Stars in Wednesday’s early kick-off.
Their position at the top, however, could only be temporary pending results of other NSL clashes with Wazito FC likely to dislodge them should they win at home to Isibania FC.
Okulo gave Vihiga an early lead before the skipper doubled their advantage at the hour mark, capitalizing on poor defending to stroke home his second after an initial shot from Martin Imbalambala had been blocked.
Rashid Kyambadde’s stunning volley late on secured all the three points for the side as they moved to 17 points, one clear of second-placed Wazito.
At the Afrah Stadium, former Kenya Premier league side Nakuru All Stars pummelled strugglers Bidco United 6-1 to move third on 15 points with Peter Ng’ang’a contributing four of those strikes.
Defender Peter Amani and Antony Nganga completed the rout, capping a seven goal thriller that condemned Bidco, under the tutelage of Head Coach George Maina to a third straight defeat.
Elsewhere FC Talanta downed Nairobi City Stars 2-0 in a thrilling clash played at Camp Toyoyo grounds.
Talanta dominated proceedings from the onset and their endeavors were awarded in the 38th minute when George Bill headed home from a John Macharia curled free-kick.
The second stanza was a relatively quite affair with both teams making several attempts on goal but to no avail.
However, Vincent Wasambo and Eric Kapaito who had been deployed upfront combined well in the dying minutes with the latter scoring a second goal to put the tie beyond their opponents reach.
