Oliech to be kicking it for Betway

Speculation surrounding the immediate future of former Harambee Stars captain and record goal-scorer, Dennis Oliech was cleared on Thursday when he was unveiled as the official ambassador of Betways.

Oliech, 31, who at the height of his fame as the feared front man of Stars was known as ‘The Menace’, inked a one-year deal that will see him represent the online bookmaker at various functions countrywide.

“Betway is a major brand that I am proud to be associated with. This is also a great opportunity for me to start another chapter in my career,” the man who’s wonderstrike sent Kenya to the 2004 AFCON in Tunisia in a 1-0 home victory over Cape Verde in September 2003 said.

His future had been uncertain since leaving Dubai CSC last year, with reports the striker who made a name in Qatar and France where he sealed one lucrative move after another, had fallen into lean times and could not get a team.

Oliech has since sued a local publication that ran a lurid article he was broke.

“Signing a Kenyan legend like Dennis Oliech is another significant coup for Betway and we’re looking forward to working with Dennis over the course of the next 12 months,” Betway Group CEO Richard Akitt, said.

“Betway is a world-class brand that is growing rapidly in Kenya and having Dennis alongside us only serves to underline our commitment to the country.”

Oliech was first capped by Kenya as a 17-year old and has scored a record 34 goals in his 68 appearances to date.
