Olunga finally pens four-year Djurgården deal

The 2015 SportPesa Premier League player of the year Michael ‘Engineer’ Olunga finally penned a four-year deal with Swedish Allsvenskan side Djurgården on Wednesday to formally launch his European football career.

The developmental deal is said to be within the region of Sh8 to Sh9m and shall allow Olunga to complete his Geospatial Engineering course at the prestigious University of Stockholm starting this August among other clauses.

“For as long as I’ve been allowed to continue my studies, I haven’t lost anything. The agreement states that I be allowed to get acquainted with the harsh Swedish weather and their style of play this season, then give them my best from next season,” elated Olunga said moments after signing the deal.

“I think the management didn’t want to put  me under any pressure, but I will surprise them, because I’m in transit, I don’t intend to stay here for long,” the former Gor Mahia marksman who will be donning jersey number 17 for his new club added.

Olunga helped the Kenyan soccer giants Gor win their third league title in a row after joining them from Tusker FC, with K’Ogalo’s unbeaten season (2015) being the striker’s career highlight thus far.

Olunga emerged the 2015 Kenya Premier League’s second best goalscorer with 19 goals as well as the overall best player of the same year at the FOYA Awards.

In his absence, Gor have struggled for goals, failing to win their opening three matches of the season.
