Olympics coach bemoans lethargy after defeat to Kayole

Mombasa Olympics head coach Joseph Oyoo has blamed lethargy in front of goal as the major factor which contributed to their 3-1 defeat to Kayole Strikers in a women Premier League match staged at the weekend at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa County.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Oyoo said his blunt striking force is even weaker after Mwanalima Adam decamped to Thika Queens.

“The match was very tough, we tried our best in the first half – at least to score many goals– but my strikers could not achieve that. Kayole were very strong in striking, they really dominated the match,” he said.

“Since we lost Mwanalima Adam to Thika Queens I have been missing a lot moreso in the striking department. For now, I have to nurture the young strikers in order to fit in her position,’’ lamented Oyoo.

Nancy Atako opened the scoring for visitors in the 17 minute before Kasei Audrey and Rasoha Sylvia sealed the win in the 72nd and 77 minutes as Haya Dorothy scored the consolation goal for Olympics in the 20th minute.

Meanwhile, at the Mumias Complex, Eldoret Falcons beat bottom-placed Vihiga Leeds 3-2 with Purity Nzetu and Laurah Asembu scoring for Leeds while Harambee Starlets’ Janet Bundi grabbed a brace before Gesare Roselyn sealed the win.

At the same time, the match between Thika Queens and league champions Vihiga Queens which was to be played yesterday was rescheduled since a number of their players are in camp with the national senior team, Harambee Starlets, in preparations for an Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers match on April 4 against Uganda.

According to Vihiga Queens head coach Alex Alumira, they could not play without their key footballers.

“.My team has five players in the national team while Thika has four. We had to write to FKF to requesting them to reschedule our matches,” he said.

Thika Queens top the log on 15 points after five rounds of matches, ahead of Wadadia who are second with 14 points from eight games.
