Omae lays down Gold Coast targets as NOCK boss unveil team kits

Sprinter Collins Omae says he’s ready to turn tables at the 2018 Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place in Gold Coast, Australia.

The former Mwamba RFC winger who later shifted to athletics said he is ready to march his opponents at the high-affinity event slated for April 4-15.

Omae made his Commonwealth debut in 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland and finished seventh in the 200m sprint but says he’s now worked on the errors that made him not to shine.

“In the 2014 Commonwealth event I was still learning how to run but four years down the line, I have participated in quite a lot of events and I believe I have gained a lot of experience,” he said. “My body too has undergone a lot of exercises hence I believe this time I will perform better,” he told Citizen Digital  at Milele Hotel, Nairobi during the launching of the sports kits that athletes will use in the competition

The launching was conducted by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya president Paul Tergat who challenged athletes to make Kenya shine at the event.

“I am urging you to work hard so that you can earn a medal not just for you but for Kenya too. You are among the few people who will represent Kenya so make sure that you don’t disappoint the millions of who will be watching you,” the 49-year-old Tergat said.

At the same time Tergat has promised the athletes’ allowances will be ready by Wednesday next week, giving an assurance that all cadres of athletes are winding up their final exercises.

“The rugby team is training in Karen, cycling are in Murang’a and the boxing team are on their final touches in Nakuru and I believe we are one team despitethe different venues of training,” he added.
