Omollo confident Muguna will be fit to face Algerian side Belouizdad in CAF tie

Gor Mahia stand-in coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo is confident of having skipper Kenneth Muguna available for a CAF Champions League round one tie against Algerian side Belouizdad.

Miguna limped off in the first half of the return leg on Saturday that saw Gor dispatch Rwandan giants 4-3 on aggregate to sail to round one of the competition but Pamzo is hopeful the captain will recover in time for the clash.

The magnitude of Miguna’s injury is unclear with the technical bench upbeat it isn’t major.

Said Omollo: “We still have a lot to prepare and the league matches will help us in the build up to the game. Two weeks is enough for the recovery and hopeful he will recover from the knock and cramps he suffered on Saturday.”

The first leg tie is penciled for the weekend of  Dec 22/23 away in Algiers, while Gor host the return leg on the weekend of Jan 3 in Nairobi.

Omollo noted that as part of their preparations for the fixture, they’ll be doing a lot of video analysis.

“I had asked for the videos of our opponents of the recent games they have played and the management has promised to deliver by this evening.

Once I  receice them I will study them and pass the information to my player so that we can have a good idea on how we can handle them come match day,” added Pamzo.

The Algerians knocked out Al Nasr of Libya 4-0 to set up the mouth-watering tie with K’Ogalo. Should Gor cruise past this stage they’ll romp into the money-mining group stages where a tidy Sh 50million kitty is up in store.

However defeat will drop them to the CAF Confederations Cup knockout stage. Last year, on March 4, Gor lost 0-1 to another Algerian side Hussein Dey in a Caf Confederations match and will be aiming for better results this time round.

“The biggest challenge we were having was the players fitness because prior to the first leg we had not played any competitive match, but what assisted me during the two games was that I have coached a good number of the players before they joined Gor, I have faced many of them in league meetings with my clubs Posta Rangers,” the former Kenyan International told Citizen Digital.

Gor are expected to launch their league defence on Wednesday against Ulinzi Stars but the fate of the match still hangs in the balance following broadcast disagreements with the federation. The soldiers, like K’Ogalo, are also yet to pen the deal.
