Omukuyia ‘relieved’ as Commandos arrest Police

Green Commandos coach Eliud Omukuyia said he was relieved as his side climbed off the relegation zone following a 2-1 win over Administration Police at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

It was a case of simply switching positions as Police slipped to replace Commandos in 17th, only above GFE 105 and Nakuru All Stars who have made shocking starts to the 2018 campaign.

Mathews Rodgers and Hull City trialist Joshua Otieno notched first half strikes to put the hosts in the driving seat with Hillary Otieno pulling one back in the second half.

“It is a big relief for the players and technical bench to register a sweet win over experienced side and we hope we will maintain the momentum,” Omukuyia told Citizen Digital.

Commandos had made a strong start with Castro Likhanga and and former Kakamega Homeboyz defender Victor Matete calling Police goalkeeper Paul Khasenye into action with attempts inside the opening five minutes.

Omukuyia’s daring start paid off in the ninth minute as Castro Likhanga broke free on the right before crossing the ball into the path of Mathews who guided it into the net for a cool finish.

The forward should have grabbed his brace moments later when Khaseye pushed his stinging effort back to his feet but rushed it off-target.

Otieno then made it 2-0 with a clever looping finish after he had spotted Khaseye off his lines.

The visitors commanded the proceedings in the second but were unable to make good use of their rich possession thanks to poor finishing with Otieno’s goal in the 72nd proving insufficient to inspire a comeback.
