The Kenyan Premier League season is headed to its homestretch and Gor Mahia has one hand on the title.

And so it seems for Gor Mahia that the script is rehearsed in Heaven.

On Saturday afternoon, not even the teeming rain in Kericho could halt their relentless march to the gong that they so much desire.

Here, at the Kericho Green Stadium, facing Tusker FC, the opponents against whom they intend to dethrone as champions, Gor delivered yet another masterful performance to win 2-0 and pull 12 points clear at the head of the table.

“This is the best game I’ve managed as Gor Mahia coach and the best they’ve played in terms of character, heart and mentality. It’s not yet time to talk about the title now so we keep fighting to the very end,” Kerr told Citizen Digital after the victory.

The Englishman had just joined the rest of the squad in an explosive post-match celebration on a day that doubled as striker Jacques Tuyisenge’s birthday. The Rwandese striker was mobbed as the referee called the final whistle and rolled over at the muddy sidelines in jubilant scenes.

“I don’t know what happened but they hit us first and didn’t let us back in it. For now we go back to the drawing board and see how far we can finish,” Kerr’s opposite number George Nsimbe remarked.

Gor enjoyed the better start as Kagere beat David Okello in the 16th minute  following a sweeping move from the visitors with Tuyisenge laying it on the plate for his counterpart to tuck home.

Odhiambo, who scintillated the visiting crowd with flashes of brilliance, scored a stunning goal to make it 2-0 after the restart as his long range strike from the right dipped home.

Tuyisenge had the chance to make it a memorable birthday  after Kagere’s cut-back set him on a one-on-one situation only for him to shoot straight onto the on-rushing Okello.

As the game approached its dying minutes Kerr made a double substitution, bringing on Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza and Philemon Otieno for Kenneth Muguna and Odhiambo.

Tusker substitute Michael Khamati tested Boniface Oluoch from outside the area but the keeper punched it clear.

Gor can hardly see Tusker from their rear view as the champions fell 15 points behind with goals from the ever-green Meddie Kagere and re-born George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo lifting coach Dylan Kerr closer to his first title at K’Ogalo since he docked at these shores.

The smile on Kerr’s face will only grow bigger after their closest challengers, Sofapaka FC stumbled yet again as they went down 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz in Mumias after allowing the hosts to come from a goal down to claim all the three points.

Visiting Sofapaka sprung to the lead in the 19th minute through a strike by Umaru Kasumba but subsequent goals from veteran Wycliffe Opondo and Jeremiah Wanjala ensured maximum points for the hosts.

At the Ruaraka grounds in Nairobi, Posta Rangers were forced to settle for yet another draw from a winning position following their 1-1 stalemate at home to struggling Thika United, as the wheels continue to come off the KPL frontrunners.

Veteran midfielder Jerry Santos put Rangers ahead after 24 minutes with a header from a Luke Ochieng long throw but the party was spoiled shortly thereafter by Thika’s Eugene Mukangula .

This was Rangers ninth game on the bounce without a win exerting pressure on the shoulders of youthful coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’Omollo.
