Organizers postpone Nairobi Continental Tour

The Nairobi Continental Tour christened Kip Keino Classic slated for September 26 has been postponed to October 3.

According to organizers, the event has been pushed forward by a week due to the adjustments caused by changes on the Diamond League series calendar.

In the changes, the Doha meet which was scheduled for October 9 will now be held on September 25 thus clashing with the Nairobi meet.

“Due to our closeness with the Middle East country, the two meetings cannot be held in the same weekend or rather within a space of 24 hours because they are bound to divide the athletes in the region and that is why we thought it was wise to postpone our event to give them an opportunity in both races,” said the KipKeino meet director, Mr. Barnaba Korir.

Kipkeino Classic is the only meet in the inaugural World Continental Gold Tour slated to be held on African soil.

The one-day event will be held at the 30,000-seater Nyayo National Stadium where renovations are nearing completion.

The meet will thus be held on the eve of the much-awaited London Marathon which organizers have confirmed will take place on October 4.

Meanwhile, the first meet of the Continental Tour kicked off yesterday in Turku, Finland with 6000 fans allowed to attend the event.
