Oromchan scores and sees red as Stima hold Gor

Villa Oromchan struck in the second half before he was sent off as Western Stima rallied to hold Gor Mahia FC to a 1-1 draw during Wednesday’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Clifton Miheso had opened the scoring for Gor who also had a man sent off and had to play for close to an hour after Joash Onyango was given the marching orders for a rash challenge on teenage striker Benson Omala.

The league leaders thus squandered the opportunity to move six points clear at the summit with their latest stumble coming on the back of a chastening 3-1 loss at the hands of Sofapaka FC four days ago in Narok.

“They didn’t look like they would score even after we went a man down and frankly I could not wait for half time so I could tell them exactly how I want them to set up. We wanted to counter attack in the second half and that’s where we got the goal from.

“I felt the goal we gave away could have been stopped but to take something after playing for…is it 50 or 55 minutes or maybe a little longer? I don’t know but I’m happy we got the point,” Pollack told Citizen Digital.

His counterpart Salim Babu shared his dissatisfaction with the result, saying he felt they created enough chances to win the match but said Gor’s red card had indeed given his side a psychological disadvantage.

“Playing against 10 men means you’re facing a unit that’s very determined to get a result and they can grind it out especially because their experience beats that of our team.”

Gor remained top on 45 points but Tusker FC, who occupy second spot, can cut that lead to a point if they win their game in hand.
