Ouma, Dogo confident of edging Burundi

Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma is optimistic that his charges will defeat Burundi when the teams meet in the semi final on Saturday, in the ongoing Cecafa women senior challenge in Dar Es Salaam Tanzania.

Starlets scored three unanswered goals against Uganda on Thursday taking them on top of Group B, that also includes Ethiopia and Djibouti to cruise in the last four stage.

Burundi who finished second in group A consisting of Tanzania, South Sudan and Zanzibar, where they wound up their group matches with a 3-0 victory over South Sudan.

Ahead of the semi final, Ouma in an interview with Citizen Digital expressed confidence Starlets will edge Burundi on their to the final.

“We have observed the team is improving day by day, which I commend. The players have to keep it up. How to start the game, how to progress it, and how to ensure we minimise opponents threats is something that team is showing improvement in,” Ouma explained.

He continued: “In our match against Uganda we realised they have very strong defense and were swift in creating threats from the counter. We however tried to tackle those aspects in the match. I think rotating my squad has helped me a lot to deal with opponents. Most of thoseI rested yesterday will start in next match.”

Against Uganda, star striker Mwanahalima ‘Dogo’ Adam was rested just after the first half while on fire Jentrix Shikangwa came on in the second half.

Burundi must fall

Ouma words were echoed by Mwanahalima, who said Burundi must fall.

“We are in top form; everyone can feel it in camp. Burundi should just be ready to go home, we will be more zelous being just a step from the final,” she warned.

In another semi final, Group A leaders Tanzania will take on Uganda crested Cranes who finished as first runners up in Group B.

The finals are slated for Monday 25 at Chamazi stadium.
