Ouma keen to improve Starlets after Sofapaka axe

Harambee Starlets Head Coach David Ouma has reiterated that by being relieved of his duties as the Sofapaka FC Head Coach, he will have more time to better prepare the national team for the forthcoming African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON).

The tactician added that the decision to part ways with the Batoto ba Mungu was a mutual agreement between the club’s management and him, given his tight schedule with the Starlets.

“We have reviewed the national team’s program and the club program and as of now Sofapaka need someone who is always around. The management assessed that I will not be around most of the time and so I proposed to take an unpaid leave until the end of AWCON.

“We play Cameroon today and then Egypt next week before travelling to Cameroon for the championships early next month,” Ouma told Citizen Digital.

Under Ouma, the 2009 champions have struggled for form and are on the verge of being relegated and only climbed above Nairobi City Stars into 15th position with 19 points, five below safety zone on Friday.

The Starlets play Cameroon’s national women team in a friendly match that will be played at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

“The match starts at 4pm local time (+3 GMT). We are not using the cashless system to sell tickets because we have been trying to activate the match and be able to give what we call complimentary tickets, and thus being a challenge to the cashless system.

“There are very adequate plans for security,  earlier on we had with OCPD Kasarani and he talk about the kind of security they have put in place formal, parts of their national police service, that means the regular police, administration police and GSU plus the private security firms. So I am assuring people that it will be going to be safe, where people can come have fun, watch a game and support the team,” Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO stated.

Starlets will play Yaoundé, Cameroon on November 5 for the friendly return leg in what will be their last action before AWCON kicks off in November, 19.
