Ouma names Starlets final squad for Turkish Cup

Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma has named his final squad for the upcoming Turkish Women’s Cup slated for March 2-11 in Turkey.

Among those dropped from the initial 25-woman provisional squad are; Phiona Ariko of Thika Queens, Cynthia Livondo (Trans Nzoia Falcons), Cynthia Shilwatso (Vihiga Queens) and Elizabeth Katungwa (Mombasa Olympics).

Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom tournament star Jane Njeri who turns out for Falling Water FC who was the surprise inclusion in the provisional squad made the cut in the travelling party.

In preparations for the tourney, Starlets have been in a week-long residential camp and played a host of local friendlies.

Starlets played against Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Nairobi regional winners Beijing Raiders whom they hammered 6-0.

On Sunday, they played a series of friendlies against Dagoretti High School, Ongata Senior School as well as the national Under-16 boys’ team.

Other countries who will participate in the Turkish Women tournament include Hungary, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Romania, Uzbekistan, Northern Ireland, Turkmenistan, and Chile.

Starlets will open the competition on Wednesday when they take on Northern Ireland before facing off with Chile on Saturday and later playing against Uzbekistan on Tuesday, March 10.

The reigning CECAFA champions will use the tournament to warm up for the first round of the 2020 Women Cup of Nations where they are set to face off with neighbours Tanzania in April.

The team is set to jet out on Tuesday.
