Ouma pleased with talents at grassroots level

Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma is pleased with the talents on display at grassroots level challenging coaches to ensure they keep record of the players’ details from an early age to make it easier for them to be tracked and included into the national team.

“This tournament (Chapa Dimba) is a big platform for scouting top talent I have already identified a number of good players from different teams that I intend to include in my plans for the national team.

It’s very important for coaches to keep  records of their players from a tender age as  this will help monitor their progress  from  different parts of the country hence create healthy competition in the national team, ”said Ouma.

Salome Drailer from Beijing Raiders and the Acakoro duo of Diana Hashina and Sylvia Makungu will link up with the rest of Starlets team in camp ahead of the Turkish Women’s Cup next month.

The team reported to camp yesterday and will be in training for the rest of the week before they leave for the invitational tournament on Sunday. Ouma says the tourney will offer great exposure to the players.

“Our dream is to play in the next World Cup. These kind of tournaments offer us an opportunity to face some of the best teams in the world like Chile who are ranked above position 50, such tests make us gauge our strength as a nation,”added Ouma.

The Turkish Women Cup to be played from March 2 to 11 in Turkey and is set to act as a build-up to the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers to be played in April and June this year.

Hungary, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Romania, Uzbekistan, Northern Ireland, Turkmenistan, and Chile are the other teams set to take part in the tournament.
