Ouma tells Starlets Ugandan job not yet done

Head coach David Ouma reminded Harambee Starlets that the job is only halfway done following their 1-0 win over Uganda’s Crested Cranes in Wednesday’s 2018 African Women Cup of Nations qualifier match.

Lillian Adera’s second half strike was enough to settle the first leg tie in Machakos, handing Kenya a slim advantage ahead of Sunday’s return fixture that will be staged in the Ugandan capital Kampala.

Aggregate victory for the Kenyans will see them advance to the Second round of the continental championship in June where they will face Equatorial Guinea who were reinstated last year to the qualifying draw.

“I am pleased with the ladies’ performance but I’m challenging them not to be so excited with the win and instead focus on winning the return match in Uganda,” Ouma said.

The Crested Cranes’ captain Hasifa Nassuna applauded her teammates for their spirited display and warned they will stage a bigger fight on home soil.

“The game was good but we did not score and that’s a problem; hopefully we can get the goals back in Kampala,” she said.

Eight teams, including hosts Ghana, will take participate in the final of the tournament which will also double as the African qualifiers to the 2019 World Cup in France.
