Palos run riot as Stima hold 10-man KCB in NSL action

Palos FC ran riot in a 4-1 victory over visiting Moyas FC as Nairobi Stima and 10-man KCB shared the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate in National Super League action on Saturday.

The results had no major significance in the chase for promotion or relegation from the second-tier with Palos rising to eighth as one of the four teams on 40 points separated by goal difference.

Stima are two places below in 10th on the same tally after Anthony Odinga salvaged a point with a brilliant header in the 72nd minute against the sixth-placed Bankers (48) who went ahead in the 33rd through Brian Yathur.

“My boys were a little down during the first half but I congratulate their efforts during the second half. The results aren’t bad, a point is better than nothing,” Stima boss, Ibrahim Shikanda the former Tusker, Mumias Sugar and Azam FC defender said after the game.

“I believe we will do better in the remaining matches. I can’t talk of being promoted to Kenya top flight league now, but our next games results ill judge,” he added.

In the ill-tempered match, KCB’s Franco Balabala was sent off in stoppage time for his second bookable offence as Stima’s Anthony Odinga, Duncan Ochieng and Marcos Abwao all went into the book.

The game’s kick-off at Nairobi’s Ruaraka Grounds was brought forward to 11am local time (+3GMT) to pave way for the Kenyan Premier League clash between Posta Rangers and Kakamega Homeboyz that ended goalless later in the afternoon.

The heavy defeat in Kisumu saw Moyas (34) rooted in 11th.

Other NSL teams on 40 are Agrochemicals (seventh) and Bidco United (ninth).

On Sunday, the Mumias Sports Complex will host the fixture of the weekend when unbeaten leaders, Nzoia United (70) travel across town to visit promotion chasing Vihiga United (51).

Second-placed Nakumatt FC (57) take on troubled Talanta FC (25) who are down in 17th whilst Kariobangi Sharks (54) and Zoo Kericho (54) who round off the top four face 12th-placed Wazito (33) at home and Agrochemicals away.
