Pamzo calls for Gor discipline in CAF campaign

Gor Mahia FC’s CAF Champions League stand-in coach Sammy Omollo ‘’Pamzo’’ says discipline is key if they have to overcome CR Belouizdad of Algeria whom they face in the next round of the competition.

Omollo, who led Gor to a 4-3 aggregate victory over Rwandan side APR FC in the first round, says the focus is to avoid conceding away before accomplishing his mission back home.

‘’Our players will need to be disciplined in all fields, from abiding by instructions to playing a calm game to avoid any kind of booking and injury. We also intend to avoid letting any goal behind our net and this will work to our advantage when we get back home for the second leg’’. Said ‘’Pamzo’’.

He added that he has keenly studied the videos and will use the same to instruct his boys noting that they are not worried of their opponents.

The Posta Rangers head coach however could not confirm whether he would use the same line up that eliminated APR. Omollo says his line-up will depend on the kind of game formation he will opt for.

‘’You see in a game of football, you don’t predict your line-up in advance. Things like injuries can occur during training, and even in the course of play, your opponent’s system of play can force you to change your game plan’’.

The only player assured of his position in the next assignment is the Kisumu All Stars import goal keeper Mathew Gad who impressed in the second leg against ARP that forced ‘’Pamzo’’ to say he deserved a reward for his exemplary performance and assured him of his position between the sticks in the next match.

Gor Mahia has had a difficult time against Algerian opposition in the past. In May 2018, Gor held Algeria’s USM Alger to a barren draw in Nairobi before falling 2-1 away in Algiers, a result that ended their group stage campaign.

In September 2019 in the first round of the CAF Champions League, USM Alger repeated their message to Gor with a 4-1 win in Algiers and 2-0 win in Nairobi a fortnight later.

It is time for ‘’Pamzo’’ to prove his ability now that he is facing another Algerian side with the first leg slated for December 22 in Algeria before the second leg on January 3 in Nairobi,

Should Gor eliminate the Algerians, they will advance to the group stage of the Champions League but in the event the aggregate does not favour them, they will drop to the CAF Confederations Cup level.
