Passenga Boys axed from KSSSA nationals.

Central region football champions Passenga Boys have been disqualified from the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national championships that kicked-off in Nyeri on Tuesday.

The 2015 national champions were axed for fielding ineligible player Ezekiel Nyati during the regional championships against Wahundura Boys in the semi finals.

Passenga went on to beat Tetu Boys in the finals, and were due to represent Central in the nationals before an appeal by the latter saw them suspended.

“We have thrown them (Passenga) out after establishing the player in question was born in 1995, therefore he is above the 19-years limit.

“The case was at the regional level, so for now there are no other sanctions. This is a warning we are not tolerating age cheating at all,” KSSSA Secretary General David Ngugi told Citizen Digital.

Nyati has played for the national Under-20 and Thika United sides previously.

The team had not arrived in Nyeri, before the ruling was communicated on Monday and later made public during the official opening ceremony.
