Pay now, Migne tells govt on Stars bonus conundrum

Harambee Stars head coach Sebastian Migne is appealing to the government and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to move with speed and settle the players’ allowances before they host Ethiopia on Sunday in a crunch African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Stars hold a healthy chance of gracing the continental showpiece for the first time in 14 years and Migne wants full financial support to the team.

Migne noted it was an embarrassment for the Kenyan government not to pay players their allowances, a situation he has never experienced in his coaching career.

“I have never seen this in Africa; I can tell you this didn’t happen in Democratic Republic of Congo, in Congo and in Togo where I was a coach. Kenya has very good players and they have the potential to qualify for AFCON so please help them,”he lamented.

Stars captain Victor Wanyama who plays for English Premier League’s side Tottenham Hot Spurs echoed his boss sentiments .

“The players are complaining so much because they are giving their best but they are not being appreciated. I hope the government will chip in and sort this  out because we are almost qualifying and we don’t want to break the pot at the doorstep,” Said Wanyama.

Migne was however full of praise for his players for the one hard-earned point yesterday against Ethiopia at the intimidating Bahir Dar Stadium.

“It was difficult to beat them in that stadium. Their fans showed a very good example and I think we should do the same in Nairobi. Let the fans put on red jerseys and come in large numbers on Sunday to support the team, it’s very important match for us,” Migne said.

On Thursday, the government through the Ministry of Sports announced a free entry to the Moi Internation Sports Centre, Kasarani in a bid to get the crowd behind the stars.
