Payback time: Storms plot KPA fall in basketball semis

Storms head coach Abel Nson is optimistic he can lead his side a step better after guiding the team to their first women basketball semi-final playoffs in three years.

The last appearance at this stage in 2015 ended in a crushing defeat to KPA and face the same opposition yet again this year and will hope to turn tables on the domestic giants.

Storms eased into the semis after completing a two-game sweep of Eagle Wings, outclassing them 80-56 and 58-40 in Games One and Two of their quarters playoffs at the Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi.

Nson said their return to the semis is down to hard work and said he was excited by the momentum his side has built as they seek vengeance against the Dockers.

“I feel very much positive going to the semi finals especially my girls have started to look like the team we’re supposed to become. It’s going to be tough against KPA but now is payback time,” Nson told Citizen Digital.

Nson added that his main objective is to qualify for the Africa Zone Five Championship and to do so they have to reach the final.

Storms will have to wait for at least a fortnight before facing KPA who will be representing the country alongside Equity Bank at the Africa Women Championship in Mozambique from November 16 to November 25.

In the regular league, Storms finished third with 37 points, one point behind KPA who finished second.

KPA got also swept into the semis after they were handed a walkover against KU ORYX who failed to show up for Game Two having lost the opening game.

In the other semis showdown, the 2016 champions Equity Bank will square it out with either Strathmore or Zetech who are yet to finish their quarter’s playoffs series.
