Pipeline to send B-side to AMACO tourney in Eldoret

Champions Kenya Pipeline will be sending a weakened side to defend the AMACO International Volleyball tournament title that serves off in Eldoret starting from Friday.

The women’s volleyball titleholders will miss most of their stars that are with national team Malkia Strikers that is training for the Rio 2016 Qualifiers in Puerto Rico.

“We thought the champions might miss this year’s tournament, but they have agreed to send a B side and we are happy since its makes the tournament competitive,” event founder and Rwanda national team coach, Paul Bitok said.

Former champions Kenya Prisons will also aim at giving more exposure to the recently recruited young squad that failed to rein supreme at last month’s Africa Women’s Club Championship held in Tunis after being eliminated at the quarter finals.

The invitation tournament is expecting 50 local and international clubs are expected to take part in the senior, colleges and school categories for both men and women.

Nemo Stars men side and both men and women teams of Kampala Armatuer Volleyball Club (KAVC) are the three teams from Uganda while Rwanda will send Kirehe.

National Men’s defending champions Kenya Defence Forces (Ulinzi) return to action after missing the Kilian leg last month but expect stiff opposition from national champions Kenya Prisons and General service Unit GSU.

The tournament regarded by many as Kenya’s biggest tournament will see winners take home KSh100,000, with first and second runners up pocketing KSh50,000 and Sh25,000 respectively in women and men’s category.
