Plans afoot to have Gor face Bolton in friendly match

Plans are underway to have Gor Mahia play a friendly match with English Championship side Bolton Wanderers in November.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier has said the team’s head coach Dylan Kerr is making arrangement for the friendly match to be played at the University of Bolton Stadium, formerly known as Macron Stadium.

“Kerr is using his connections to give the boys a chance to meet Bolton Wanderers  and this will be a good experience abroad,” said Rachier.

The Gor boss added that club  which is penciled to face Everton FC in another warm-up match on November 6 or 7 will leave for Goodison Park on November 3.After this friendly, they’ll possibly face-off with  Bolton.

While in the UK, K’O galo will have an opportunity to watch live at least three EPL matches.

Gor Mahia booked a ticket to Goodison Park  after winning the Super Cup tournament organized by a local gaming company in March this year at Nakuru’ Afraha Stadium. The competition brought together teams from Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Their friendly against Everton makes them the only Kenyan team to play the Goodison Park side twice having lost to them last year in Dar es salaam.

If their dream of playing against Bolton comes true, they will become the first Kenyan team to play two sides.

The build-up matches in the UK will be  good pre-season for Gor who have already won their 17th  league  title with  six matches to spare.

Meanwhile, Gor’s forward Jacques Tuyisenge is in the United States of Americ for a mission yet to be clarified. Rachier says Tuyisenge had requested to be given a week to attend to private matters in the US, adding that the Rwandan forward has family ties abroad and would join the team “soon after accomplishing his mission”.

Rachier dispelled fears that this could be another ‘’Walusimbi style’’ of leaving the club noting that Tuyisenge is one of the most disciplined team members.

After the match against USM Alger last Wednesday in Algiers, Tuyisenge was assisted off the pitch limping and later told Citizen Digital that he has a recurring hip injury that does not require “heavy duty”.

Team doctor Patrick Onyango was in agreement that Tuyisenge now needs enough rest and thorough physiotherapy for him to be fully back in play.

‘”I am aware of his problem and since he is one player who works so hard with a lot of running on the pitch, he will need proper medical attention to see him regain full form and energy,’’  Said Onyango.

The former Rwanda national team captain was so instrumental for Gor Mahia in Algeria on and  off the pitch in communication since he was one of the only four team members who could speak French, which is the official language in Algeria. The other team members who were used often in translation include Francis Mustapha, Karim Nzigyimana and Gor Mahia chair Rachier.
