Players, coaches make submissions in meeting with Cricket Normalisation Committee

Cricket Kenya Normalisation Committee chairperson, Retired Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch has expressed confidence of getting the game back on its feet.

This comes after the committee met the national team players and coaches.

In Tuesday’s meeting held at Kasarani, the committee heard from the players and coaches on challenges the game has been facing including players welfare as well as deliberations on structures of developing the sport.

“…we are doing our very best to get cricket back to where it should be. We will continue with this exercise and hopefully we will be able to engage more stakeholders. We may not reach everybody, we may not talk to everybody or groups but we will try our best and if we are not able to meet we will receive memoranda,” the retired judge said.

The committee heard from the players and coaches on challenges the game has been facing in the country as well as tackling a range of issues – from players welfare, facilities, general development and structure of the game.

“We have engaged senior men national team players; we also engaged senior women national team players as well as developing coaches from around the country. We wanted to hear it from them and they told us their challenges especially since cricket has not been played for almost one and a half years,” she explained. “They told us what their challenges were and we wanted to hear it from them. We also discussed the immediate resumption of the game and how to develop the game internationally,” added Aluoch.

The Normalisation Committee is expected to coordinate the finalization of the Draft Constitution and ensure its validation in line with the requirements of the Sports Act 2013 and the ICC Statutes, as well as ensure smooth running of Cricket Kenya’s operations.

They will eventually submit their recommendation to the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage on long lasting solutions to the problems bedeviling the sport.
