Poor start for Kenyan teams in hockey championship

Kenyan hockey teams had a poor start as the African Cup of Nation championship got underway in Ismailia, Egypt on Sunday.

The men hockey team fell 3-0 to Ghana, while their female counterparts lost 5-0 to South Africa in day one of action at  the Suez Canal Authority Hockey Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.

By losing 3-0 to Ghana, the Kenya men failed to avenge on the 1-0 loss they suffered last year to the West Africans in the World League One Series in Accra.

Damalie Luke shattered Kenya’s hopes of beginning the competition on a bhang when he shook the net in the 4th minute, to open the score sheet.

As the action intensified,  Akaba Emmanuel was cautioned for rough play in the 27th minute, siiting out for five minutes.

Two minutes later,  Munialo Kennedy of Kenya played a foul with saw him suffer similar fate

But the Ghanina’s were not done with Kenya yet, Damalie as Akaba Elikem scored the second goal in the 33rd minute before Akuamoah-Boateng Michael added the other in the 45th minute.
