Posta crush Chemelil, Otieno saves Tusker

Posta Rangers moved up into fifth on the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings with a 3-0 victory over Chemelil Sugar as they ended a run of three successive draws in style at the Narok County Stadium.
Charles Odete, Francis Nambute and Joseph Mbugi were all on the score-sheet to fire the hosts to within three points of league leaders Tusker FC who drew 1-1 with KCB FC at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium.
Tusker, who had the opportunity to go four clear on top, went behind early courtesy of Reagan Otieno’s strike. KCB were forced to play with a man down for over an hour after Bethuel Warambo was red carded. And the visitors needed a late penalty converted by Timothy Otieno in the fifth minute of stoppage time to salvage a point.
Elsewhere, what should have been shared spoils at the lakeside city of Kisumu turned out to be bitter pain for travelling Kariobangi Sharks when centre-back Amani Kyata inadvertently turned the ball into his own net with five minutes left on the clock to hand Kisumu All-Stars a cherished 1-0 win over the Nairobi based side at the Moi Stadium.
The match in Narok was unpredictable in the opening proceedings as the two sides each missed open chances until the 10th minute of the first half when Odete converted a cross by easily tapping in the net after a mix up with the Chemelil defenders inside the 6 yard box.
However Chemelil who fought back almost scored but the lines man pulled the flag severally for offside trap smartly laid by Rangers’ defense.
Francis Nambute of Rangers smiled with the net in the 29th minute to earn his team the second goal in the first half to make it 2 goals to nothing until the end.
In the second half pace of the game for the two teams increased with the bench power shouting instruction from all sides but the Rangers’ third goal courtesy of Mbugi in the 51st minute of the second half sealed off hopes for Chemelil until the final whistle.
Coach Sammy Omollo of Posta Rangers was elated with the win more so after his boys utilized first half break chances to take lead following four goalless matches.
Omollo thanked his defense pack for a spirited fight in the last ten minutes of the game which he was hopeful will be showed against next game with Nzoia Sugar FC.
