Posta Rangers keen to maintain KPL status ahead of play-off

Posta Rangers head coach John Kamau is unbendable on remaining in the Kenya Premier League(KPL) ahead of promotion/relegation playoff first-leg of the two-legged tie against Nairobi Stima on Saturday at Karuturi grounds, Naivasha.

The Rangers, who finished 16th in the KPL, will lock horns with Stima, who finished 3rd in the National Super League (NSL), with the winner in aggregate score securing a slot in upcoming season of KPL and the loser playing in the lower division (NSL).

Kamau, who did not expect to find his team in such a battle, is firm that Rangers will manage to lock a niche in the coming KPL season, expecting upbeat results from the preceding tie against Nairobi Stima.

“We need to work on the mental part of the team and ensure that we keep focus because we have the quality to beat any team if we address some little issues within the team and together as a team, we will get the better out of the match,” noted Kamau

Posta Rangers slump to the play-off match after failing to sip Tusker in the last premier league match, going 2-1 to the brewers which led them to the 16th position and eventually to the play-off strap.

Rangers, who managed to seize the 4th position in the last two seasons running, found themselves in the bottom rock after under-performing in the 2018/19 season which saw Gor Mahia recoup the championship for a third time in succession.

Conversely, Nairobi Stima missed by a whisker a chance to get direct promotion to the KPL after losing their prospects to Kisumu All Stars on an 8-goal deficit after they tallied on 80 points, with Wazito earning direct promotion.

Stima’s talisman Dennis Oalo, who scooped the 2018/2019 NSL golden boot after netting 24 goals, will be keen to be on target in the play-off match.

Rangers will host second leg on July 19 at Machakos stadium.
