Preparations in top gear as Kisii race to host KICOSCA Games

Preparations are in top gear ahead of this year’s KICOSCA Games  slated for August 12-18 in Kisii County.

The sixth edition of the competition that features county government and county assembly employees countrywide will be staged in several stadia across the county, many of which are still under construction.

There has been fear that the facilities may not be ready in time for the competition but County Executive in charge of   Roads and Public Works, Vincent Sagwe told Citizen Digital that the preparations are on course, noting that the facilities could be ready ahead of schedule.

“ At the moment the progress is good and I believe that what we intended to achieve will be met. We want the games to kick off as planned .”

Sagwe  further hinted that majority of the infrastructure is in good shape. Richard Mogire, Ena Investment Chief Executive Officer whose firm has been contracted to renovate the terraces echoed Sagwe’s sentiments.

“We have a team that is foreseeing and supervising the constructions. The contract spells out that the renovations should be completed in the next one month which is convenient as the games are two months away.

“So in a month’s time, we’re able to finish. At the worst, it should be done in four weeks,”he said.

On Sunday the Kisii government held a stakeholders meeting to marshal support for the event through voluntary contributions– targeting donations of items such as trophies.

More than 8,000 participants will compete in 18 disciplines for major honours, with a slot to represent Kenya in the East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) competitions slated for Kigali, Rwanda in December, also on the cards.
