Pride, title and cash on the line as Kerr faces his former employers

Bullish Gor Mahia head into Sunday’s Super Cup final aiming at nothing but glory as they bid to retain the gong they won last year in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in its inaugural edition.

Twelve months may have since ebbed away but Sunday’s meeting between K’Ogalo and Simba SC, the giants of Tanzanian football, makes this tie not only delicately poised but intriguing too.

As if that is not enough, the outspoken but likeable Briton now calling the shots at K’Ogalo dug-out is none other than the 51-year-old Dylan Kerr, the man who Simba gave the boot in 2016.

Fast forward, he meets his former employers in a Cup final and what a better way than to put them to the sword. In fact, as they say, revenge is a dish best served when cold and the happy-go- lucky Kerr has the golden opportunity in his fingers to punish his former masters.

Listen to him speak:  “In football, there is always going to be emotional attachment with clubs that you have previously been involved with. However, my concentration is on my team and the game,” said Kerr.

“We are preparing ourselves for a very difficult game. Simba is a good side. They will be focusing on their game so what we have to do is concentrate on ourselves, be mentally strong and stay positive,” he added .

Though coy in an interview with Citizen Digital, Kerr was quoted by a Kenyan daily stating that he will be happy to beat his former employers, noting that there are a few faces which he solely hates at the Wekundu wa Msimbazi as Simba are popularly known back at home.

Granted, and whichever way once looks at it, the clash to be staged at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru is expected to be explosive with a ticket to the United Kingdom to play Everton at Goodison Park on the cards.

Kerr also expects to have all his players available for the contest with assurance from his charges of their fitness and eagerness to feature in the duel.

Kerr is also hoping for good weather conditions to allow for a playable surface after unpleasant conditions witnessed on Thursday against Singida. This kind of conditions he believes will allow his boys express themselves freely and showcase their abundant talent.

K’Ogalo is yet to concede having scored five; three against Jeshi La Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) of Zanzibar and two against Singida United.

Simba haven’t conceded in 90 minutes as well having come through on post match penalties against Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks.

It is a final that pits two of East Africa’s finest clubs for a chance to not only travel to England to face Premier League side Everton FC  but also for a a sumptuous Sh 3 million in prize money.

The final will be preceded by a third-place playoff between Homeboyz and Singida United both of whom are debutants in the tournament.
