Prisons off to a flying start

Five-time African volleyball champions Kenya Prisons trounced Customs of Nigeria in straight sets( 3-0) to win their first match in group D in the ongoing CAVB African Women Club Championship at Cairo, Egypt.

The bronze medalists in last year’s edition held in Tunisia overpowered the Nigerians with the sets of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-15.

The David Lungáho led side will square it with Asec of Ivory Coast in their second match on Thursday at 3 pm Kenyan time as they hunt the title they last won in 2013 at Madagascar.

Subsequently, seven-time winners and the local league champions Kenya Pipeline will on Thursday play their second fixture in pool C against Vision of Uganda at 4pm a day after they announced their quest of hunting this year’s edition in style by thrashing last year’s runners-up El Shams of Egypt in straight sets (3-0 ) to win their opening Group C match.

In other matches of day two, Group D side INJS of Cameroon recovered from opening day loss to Customs of Nigeria, by seeing off Asec of Ivory Coast 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-12).  In Group B, defending champions Carthage of Tunisia beat debutants Harare City of Zimbabwe 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-9).

In Group C, El-Shams of Egypt recovered from a narrow loss to impressive Kenya Pipeline to beat Uganda’s Vision Club 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-20). In the same group, DGSP of Congo suffered their second loss of the championship after going down 0-3 to FAP of Cameroon (22-25, 24-26, 11-25).

In Group A, Rwanda Revenue Authority, under the tutelage of Kenyan legend Dorcas Ndasaba, began their quest for the title by beating Nyong of Cameroun 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 25-21, 25-14). The last match of day to was a group B match pitting Bafia of Cameroon against Chlef of Algeria with.
