Prisons, Pipeline avoid tough draws in Egypt

Kenya’s volleyball heavyweights Kenya Prisons and Kenya Pipeline landed into fairly easy quarter finals draws at the ongoing CAVB Women African Club Championship in Cairo, Egypt after the two giants topped their pools after preliminaries.

Seven time champions Kenya Pipeline who saw off FAP of Cameroon in their final group C tie will take on FAP counterparts Bafia in the last eight on Monday at 5:00pm Kenyan time, while their arch rivals Prisons who topped pool C with a record of 4-0 will square it with RRA of Rwanda at 3:00pm.

In this year’s edition ,the Kenyans who share 12 continental titles between them, after finishing on top of their pools it was evident they won’t meet in quarters as they did in last year when the David Lung’aho led side Prisons downed the local champions.

Defending champions Carthage of Tunisia who sealed to the last eight qualification after edging the group B runners up Bafia will face last year’s runners up El Shams of Egypt at 7PM in what will be a repeat of last year’s finale when the hosts edged the Egyptians in straight 3-0 sets.

Record holders (8 titles) and hosts Al Ahly who saw off Nyong of Cameroon to get the last eight qualification nod will 9PM battle it out against group D runners up Customs of Nigeria.

The ten day event will take a one day break on Sunday resuming on Monday.
