Prisons, Pipeline turn to young blood for the magic

Kenya Prisons head coach David Lung’aho is banking on the fresh faces in his squad to help propel the team to glory in the Africa Club Championship that serves off in Cairo, Egypt from March 6-15.

Lungaho has so far roped in five new players and the veteran coach believes that they will add value to the team.

The quintet is Loreen Chebet and Sharon Chepchumba from Kwanthanze Girls High School, Teresa Ewtet, Meldina Sande, and Pamela Masaisai Chepkurui – who are all from Kenya Prison Training College).

At the same time, his opposite number at Kenya Pipeline, Japheth Munala, has brought on board middle-blocker Christine Siwa, formerly of KCB, Winnie Akinyi from Kwanthanze Girls and Jemima Nafula Kipnusu from Soweto Academy who will infuse with the squad.

He said:  “We’ve got five new faces in the team .Two are from high school and three from prison college. We are confident that they’ll make us proud. With the training they’ve had with the team for more than a month we are sure of the bringing the cup home,” Lungaho bullishly told Citizen Digital in an interview after an afternoon work-out at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

At the same time, Pipeline head coach Jpatheth Munala is also counting on the fresh blood in his ranks for a better performance in the continental championship.

Pipeline, alongside Prison, will be Kenya’s representatives in the continental showpiece and they are leaving nothing to chance ahead of the competition.

Munala who has brought on board middle-blocker Christine Siwa, formerly of KCB, Winnie Akinyi from Kwanthanze Girls and Jemima Nafula Kipnusu from Soweto Academy.

Although Christine is nursing a shoulder injury incurred during one the training sessions, coach Munala is positive that the club has the potential to give a good performance.
