Prisons spike Espoir, keep quarters dream alive

Kenyan men volleyball side Prisons soared to the summit of Pool A  of the ongoing CAVB competition in Cairo, Egypt with six points after winning their second group game against Espoir of Congo 3-0 on Wednesday night to keep an unbeaten run following a similar win againsLesotho’s’s Red Skins on Tuesday.

The Paul Muthinja led side saw off the Congolese with sets of 26-24, 25-21 and 25-17 with their quarter finals chances on course.

The 2011 silver medalists will today face a litmus test when they face defending champions and record holders Al Ahly of Egypt in their third Pool A tie at 9 pm and if they win against the hosts they will sail through to the quarters with a game to spare.

In their second fixture, Al- Ahly downed AS Police of Ivory Coast 3-0 to level on points with Prisons.

The outcome is good results to Kenyan clubs after General Service Unit (GSU) thrashed Ethiopia’s Walloita 3-1 in their second match.GSU had beaten Olympique of Algeria by the same margin in their opening match

GSU who last year dethroned Kenya Prisons to win the local league will face Port of Cameroon on Thursday from 6 pm Kenyan time.
