Proper planning the key to our Floodies success Weru

Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru believes that the secret behind his team’s success is co-operation and proper planning.

The Oilers qualified for their maiden cup final of the annual Impala Floodlit tournament held at Impala Ground, Nairobi following a 30-21 victory of Kenya Harlequins in the semi-finals played over the weekend.

“We formed the club four years ago and we have been growing with time so I think for us it’s just a continuous thing and our target is to continue getting better,” said Weru.

“The secret behind our success is co-operation and proper planning and making sure that whatever we have planned is well implemented,” he added.

Oilers will play defending champions KCB in the finals this weekend at the Impala Ground after the latter beat Homeboyz 38-14 and Weru is optimistic that his charges will win the duel.

“KCB are the favorites to retain the trophy but I think we have also prepared well and impressed in the preseason and also in our last two matches in the tournament so we need to continue with that form which I believe will help us defeat KCB,” Weru explained.

The former Shujaa player says that there are some areas they need to rectify in their match against Quins before they take on the Bankers.

“I think the area we need to work on before our game on Saturday is our defence and ensure its intact and we make sure we’re playing according to our game plan,” he asserted.

Weru said the Impala Floodlit tournament is a big boost for them as they prepare for their 2019/2020 Kenya Cup opener match against Top Fry Nakuru on October 26.

“The Floodies has been basically a pre-season warm-up which has clearly shown where we’re and what we need to work on before the Kenya Cup starts,” he alleged.

Oilers finished eighth in the Kenya Cup campaign last year with 36 points, 38 points behind table-toppers Kabras Sugar.
