PSG beats Malmo in Champions League Group clash

Paris Saint-Germain beat Swedish champions Malmo 2-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday (September 15) and the efficient nature of their Group A win underlined the belief that they are likely to advance from Group A with 10-time European champions Real Madrid.

Afterwards Malmo coach Age Hareide took the blame for defeat, while PSG’s Laurent Blanc said he had hoped for even better.

“We used a 5-3-2 and we tried to play on the left, but we were missing experience. We took some bad decisions then and I have to say this is my entire fault. So the players were not in a position to deal with the situation,” Hareide told his post-match news conference.

Blanc told reporters: “Regarding this game, we showed a lot of determination and we didn’t lose our balance. It is very interesting for us if we consider that winning a Champions League match is alway something very difficult, even if you play at home. So we are starting with a 2-0 victory and we put the opposition in a hard situation. It is a good thing, although we are able to do better.”

Blanc said he thought his side should have scored more than two goals.

“So here we are, it is auspicious, we wanted to win this game and we did it. I just have regrets about not scoring one or two times more, but we reached the goal and we took three points. We will think about the next stage later as we are playing in the league first,” said the PSG manager.
