Put to use the skills acquired, coaches challenged as CAVB seminar ends

The fifth edition of the CAVB high performance coaching seminar came to an end on Monday after three days of intensive training and demonstration sessions at the Kenya Commercial Bank leadership centre in Nairobi.

The event brought together 70 coaches- 40 international and 30 local from different nations seeking to hone their volleyball skills.

The 70 coaches are drawn from Kenya, Cameroon Congo, Egypt, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Swaziland, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda among other countries.

FIVB instructor Mauro Berruto says the seminar aims to develop and improve the performance of coaches to the latest techniques globally.

“We have been focusing on interpersonal skills, advanced volleyball techniques in service, blocking and defence system, drills. I know volleyball dynamics in Africa will change now,”  said Mauro.

At the same time Kenya’s volleyball patron Judith Sidi Odhiambo has urged the coaches to adopt the techniques and methodologies from the seminar to revolutionize volleyball in Africa.

“It is our responsibility to carry these techniques and methodologies forward and ensure that it is implemented for the advancement of the volleyball game. You have the mandate to mold and shape these young people into responsible citizens therefore mentorship cannot be ignored,” said Judith who is also KCB Group Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs.
