Queens coach demands more from his charges

Vihiga Queens head coach Alex Alumira has said there is more to be done in his team as he aims to retain the Kenya Women Premier League title.

Vihiga Queens on Saturday hammered Makolanders 5-2 at Camp Toyoyo grounds but in an interview with Citizen Digital, Alumira said he’s not satisfied by the performance of her girls adding that a lot of polishing must be done moreso to the defensive unit.

“The two goals we conceded was due to poor defending. My defenders need to pull up their socks, I am impressed by attackers, they are doing well as well as midfield,” he said.

“The whole of last season we conceded only six goals but now we have conceded five, we really need to work on that.”

With the coach’s call, Robai Kebedi, Kadari Phelistus, Enez Mango, Euphresia Afwayi, Adera Lilian, Myline Awuor, Mideri Alice, Kahenda Linah and Vivian Nasaka – who are all defenders – will have to up their game.

At the same time, the team has been boosted by Terry Engesha who joined from Vihiga Leeds last season.Engesha has been prolific in front of goal scoring a mind-blowing 17 goals in five matches and Alumira has been quick to hail her input.

“I am impressed by Engesha’s form this season. The three goals she scored recently against Makolanders last weekend proved that she is on fire. She made us win the title last season and I am expecting that from her throughout the season.”

Phoebe Aketch and Corazone Acquino scored one goal each to seal the Saturday victory.
