Quit Pipeline? No, Im here to say, happy Munala says

Kenya Volleyball Federation women’s league defending champions Kenya Pipeline head coach Japheth Munala has dismissed reports indicating he is contemplating a return to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

Munala, also the national women’s tactician and who has helped the Oilers dominate the KVF league winning it since 2013 confirmed he will be in charge of Pipeline next year and his target is to defend the title at the upcoming play-offs and win the African Club Championship next year.

The play-offs will serve off from December 1-3 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

“I want to confirm that I am not going anywhere and my focus is on the play-offs because I want to win the title for the fifth time in a row. Also, I am targeting the continental title next year because it has been long since we did it. Nobody came to me to ask my future plans regarding coaching,” Munala noted.

Munala’s stance comes just a day after it emerged that at least six Pipeline players are angling to leave the local champions with KCB who are reportedly tabling ‘better’ deals their probable destination.

“I can neither confirm nor deny that some of our players have signed with our rivals KCB because that is an individual decision but I can assure you there is no crisis at Pipeline,” the seasoned coach added.

At the same time, Pipeline’s Company Communications Manager Jason Nyantino has refuted reports that the six-time African champion’s team manager Bernard Kimani has resigned.

According to Nyantino, the position is rotational noting.

“In our company we just appoint our staff to manage the team for a particular time so we decided to give Kimani another role but he did not resign as reported. We appointed other two staffs to manage the team until the end of the year,” he revealed.

During the three-day play-offs which also serves as the qualification for next year’s Africa Club Championship, Pipeline will battle it out for the title against arch-rivals Kenya Prisons ,Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Bungoma County team.
