Rachier says wont fight powerful FKF boss Mwendwa

Gor Mahia FC chairman Ambrose Rachier has said they will not protest Football Kenya Federation’s decision to cancel the club’s friendly match against Sudan’s Al Hilal in Khartoum.

Rachier said he has no tools to ‘fight the very powerful’ federation and its president, failing to mask his detestation of the FKF boss Nick Mwendwa’s high-handed approach to the issue.

“We did the necessary and wrote to them about our intention to travel to Sudan. The federation’s secretary has responded and declined our request. The federation is so powerful and with a powerful President and so we have nothing to do,” Rachier said.

The veteran football administration and Mwendwa have endured an increasingly fraught relationship and recently clashed publicly over a broadcast deal for which Rachier felt Gor’s value was undercut.

A fallout in the Gor camp ensued after an official endorsed the agreement and FKF has now opened disciplinary proceedings against Rachier after he wrote to the broadcaster opposing the deal.

Gor was due to travel to Khartoum at the invitation of Al Hilal for a friendly match on December 16 ahead of their CAF Champions League assignment against the Algerian opponent on December 22.

In a letter, FKF told Gor the friendly had been cancelled as they have a league fixture against Tusker FC on the same day.

The Kenyan champions are yet to play a single league match this season due to the ongoing tussle between the club and StarTimes Media who are contracted to relay their matches.

“We intended to better our form ahead of our CAF assignment against the Algerians but the powerful federation has declined our request. Should they even tell us to lie down, we will abide because of their power.”

Rachier has dared FKF to ‘touch’ Gor adding he is eagerly awaiting the purported summon by the federation which indicated it will take disciplinary action against him

“Let them discipline me according to the law but let them not touch Gor. We are still not part of the broadcasting agreement with StarTimes and that is our final position.”
