Raila Odinga hosts Gor Mahia after league win
CORD leader Raila Odinga is hosting the Sportpesa Premier League (SPL) Champions Gor Mahia at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi.
Gor Mahia were crowned 2015 Kenya Premier League champions on Sunday to mark an end to a stellar campaign that saw them finish the season unbeaten.
K’Ogalo were handed the trophy, the first under new title sponsors Sportpesa, after their final match against Muhoroni which they won 2-0 courtesy of goals from Ali Hassan Abondo and Michael Olunga.
Despite the financial troubles attributed to lack of shirt sponsor, K’Ogalo overcame all odds to soldier on and win the league, for the third consecutive season meaning that they will get to keep the trophy.
Odinga, who is Gor Mahia club patron has been instrumental in ensuring financial stability at the club including taking part in the launch of a deal with Good bread that would see them get Ksh 1 in every purchase of the bread.
The club however went ahead to terminate the deal after a few months and entered into a new agreement with Elliot bread which would see them get Ksh 2 per every purchase.
Odinga was also present during the coronation of Gor Mahia as the new Kenya Premier League champions on Sunday.
The ODM party leader has also given financial support to the team in several occasions including a Ksh 1 million donation ahead of their CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign which they finished second after losing to Tanzania’s Azam in the finals.
