Rangers hunt down Slum Boys at Camp Toyoyo
Joachins Atudo and Kennedy Otieno’s first half strikes sealed a 2-1 win for Posta Rangers over Mathare United in a Kenyan Premier League match on Sunday afternoon at Camp Toyoyo grounds in Nairobi.
Kennedy Otieno netted Luke Ochieng’s throw in the 10th minute before captain Joachins Atudo headed in John Nairuka’s cross.
Mathare United got a consolidating through Clifford Alwanga in the 24th minute after Rangers failed in their man-marking duties during a corner.
Francis Kimanzi coached side made several attacks on Posta’s goal late in the second half but centre-half Luke Ochieng who was paired with Atudo in the central defence stood firm.
Rangers coach Sammy Omollo was elated with the performance of his boys. He said: “I am happy with the performance of my players and we shall focus on our upcoming matches. I am happy that we didn’t have a match midweek because, normally, midweek matches affect our work rate.
“We have had enough time to recover and organize ourselves,” he said in a post-match interview.
On the other hand, Mathare’s Francis Kimanzi slammed his side for starting the match poorly but promised a bounce back in their next game.
“We fought a good fight but it was too late. We will focus on the next match. If we keep the momentum like we did in the last minutes of the second half, all will be well,” he said.
This was Mathare’s second defeat of the season but coach Kimanzi is optimistic his side will continue to fight for the top slot.
