Rangers relieved, Isibania upset GFE in NSL

Kenya’s National Super League (NSL) entered its tenth week over the weekend with nine fixtures played and stretching up to Monday where Modern Coast Rangers bounced back to winning ways after a three-match winless streak.

That dismal form came to an end as they handed St. Joseph’s a 3-0 defeat at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, moving up to ninth on the NSL standings.

Francis Ochola, a former player at Kenyan Premier League (KPL) sides Muhoroni Youth FC, Western Stima as well as relegated NSL side Shabana was in brilliant form as he grabbed a brace with a late Benjamin Rashid strike condemning newcomers to their sixth loss of the season.

Speaking after the game, Rangers Head Coach Ferdinand Ogot termed the win as a big relief and reserved special praise for his strikers.

“The strikers played very well scoring three goals and am happy we won the game which is a big relief for me after a losing three consecutive ties, now we need other four wins to put the team back on track for the fight of the league.” he told Citizen Digital.

The Coastal-based side have 14 points after 10 matches while St.Joseph lie at the second from bottom on four point – two MOSCA FC who are yet to register a win in the 2017 second tier campaign.

Vihiga United cemented their place at the top of the table with a 1-0 win against Police FC on Saturday as they continue in their bid to earn KPL promotion after missing out by one place last term.

Isibania produced the upset of the round when they stunned early season league leaders GFE 2-1 to bounce back from 3-1 loss to Wazito FC on Thursday.

Isibania opened the scoring charts in the 22nd minute with Michael Babu slotting in a well taken goal after a wonderful cross from the captain Raymond Osodo. Geoffery Alwala for GFE made it 1-1 in the 37th minute.

Richard Mule scored the winner in the 80th minute from the spot after Michael Babu was brought down in the dangerous area.

Kibera Black Stars got their second win of the season with a massive 3-1 win against host Bidco United.

The Nairobi based now sit 15th on the table with eight points while strugglers Bidco sit 17th with five points after ten rounds.
