Red-hot KCB maintain perfect run with win over bitter rivals Kabras

Defending Kenya Cup champions KCB maintained their impressive unbeaten run after thrashing rivals Kabras Sugar 41-12 at the Ruaraka grounds on Saturday.

The bankers scored seven tries and two conversions against Kabras two tries, overrunning the latter in an exciting game that kept the fans entertained.

At the same time, Kisii RFC confirmed their relegation slot after losing 17-43 to Kenya Harlequins.Kisii joins Mombasa RFC in bagging the ticket to the second-tier league

Meanwhile, Homeboyz RFC who crushed Mombasa RFC 121-11 join KCB in automatically qualifying for the semifinals by virtue of being position 1 and 2, respectively.

At Ruaraka, the bankers who were unbeaten in all 10 games headed into the game with the bragging rights being the major denominator in the heavy-weights clash

Both teams failed to capitalised on their chances but KCB had an upper hand after Kenya international Darwin Mukidza threatened the sugar miller’s defence to no avail.

KCB forwards Peter Karia and Nick Ongeri who were having a perfect game scored two quick tries after they forced their way through the whitewash with exceptional mauls that saw Kabras fail to defend.

Mukidza slotted in two penalties to set up the score at 27-0 and KCB were not done yet and few minutes before the half-time hooter they stuck yet again.

Before halftime, KCB had scored five tries to take the game out of reach of the defending champions.

Philip Wokarach sent the visiting fans into a frenzy after a well-worked move that saw him sidestep four KCB defender’s  leaving Mukidza helpless to score a beauty just before the half-time whistle.

Soon after the break, KCB took from where they left, but Kenyan sensation Jacob Ojee knocked on the ball after a well-worked set piece that sawa Mukidza again set up Ojee and with only him and the try line Ojee wasted the glorious opportunity.

Former Simba captain Brian Nyikuli consoled the home fans with his first try for his new club after running over a few Kabras defence to the shock of head coach Charles Cardovillis.

Felix Ojow, before being sin-binned, scored a try with Ojee going under the posts to console himself,with Mukidza converting both.

Kabras managed to capitalise on the KCB sin bin but their try was not enough as the bankers bagged all five points.
