Rejigged Shujaa off to Victoria Falls Sevens

The Kenya national sevens team Shujaa left the capital Naiorbi on Thursday morning for Zimbabwe ahead of the Victoria Falls tournament.

Sujaa officials have tinkered with his latest squad with Levy Amunga and Brian Waihinya in line to earn first national team caps at Victoria Falls.

Kenya Harlequins duo Frank Wanyama and Herman Humwa make a comeback to the national team and are joined by Menengai Cream Homeboyz utility pair of Augustine Lugonzo and Bush Mwale.

Menengai Oilers teammates Eric Ombasa and Samuel Muregi retain their spots in the 12-man team with KCB speedster Arthur Owira also included in the squad.

Impala Saracens fullback Ian Minjire, the non-travelling World Series substitute, makes the cut and is joined by his youthful teammates Mark Kwemoi and Derrick Mayar who will don the national jersey for the first time.

However there is no space for Shujaa captain Oscar Ayodi who is still out recovering from a cartilage injury he suffered during the global circuit opener in Dubai.

The 10 participating teams will be divided into two groups of five, with 20 games expected to be played on Day One while the second day will consist of knockout rounds to determine the finalists.

The Will Webster coached side is pooled in a favourable Group B alongside hosts Zimbabwe, Zambia B, False Bay and Lesotho in the two-day invitational tournament.

The tournament will serve as a timely warm up for the Commonwealth Games and the Sevens World Cup for the national team.

Zimbabwe won last year’s edition with a 24-7 Cup final win over Namibia.
