Renovations for Nairobi WU18 get CS Nkaissery nod

Internal Security and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Nkaissery expressed his approval of the ongoing renovation works when he toured the IAAF Youth Championships athletes’ village on Monday.

Nkaissery was in the company of his counterpart from the Sports Culture and the Arts, Dr. Hassan Wario where both were taken through an extensive tour of the facility at the Kenyatta University.

Nkaissery inspected the hostels, kitchens, recreation halls, athletes’ anti-dope testing rooms, and the brand new tartan track that is under construction.

He also assessed the Ksh800m worth of renovation works at Nyayo Hostels where 2,500 athletes and officials will be housed during the July 12-16 Games.

The contingent that included KU’s acting Vice chancellor Prof. Paul Wainaina and Local Organising Committee (LOC) CEO Mwangi Muthee and over 30 LOC members then proceeded to host venue, Kasarani Stadium.

He was also taken to the proposed media center, the ampitheatre and the the gymnasium where athletes will conduct their training sessions.

“We are on course to completing the athletes’ village as per the IAAF standards and have increased the manpower working around the clock to deliver the games village,” Prof. Wainaina assured.

On his part, Nakissery eased concerns over the security of the global showpiece that has seen six nations confirm their withdrawal.

“I am here to assure you that we will be ready to host the games and all preparations are on course,” he underscored.

CS Wario reiterated the competition will leave a lasting legacy on the country and the KU which will inherit the world class facilities that will enable Kenya to be considered to host future international games.
