Revenge on the cards as Equity, KPA lock horns

Despite the festive season mood having gripped his players, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women team head coach Antony Ojukwu believes his side will give their best when they take on Equity Bank in Game One of the Basketball League play-offs.

The two giants go shoulder-and-shoulder from 4pm at the Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa and Ojukwu expects his charges to draw the first blood in their bid to defend the title.

Playing on homegrown should hand KPA an advantage and it has to begin this evening before they meet again tomorrow in Game Two at the same venue.

Game Three, Four and Five will be played in Nairobi at the weekend where the champion s will be known.

“We are going to give our best despite the festive mood which has clearly gripped the players,” Ojukwu said.

Team captain Brenda Angeshi was even more forthright noting that their goal is to defend the cherished title. “The finals aren’t going to be easy but ready for it,”she said.

The dockers defeated Storms 3-0 in best of five series in the semi finals playoffs while Equity registered the same outcome against Strathmore.

“It’s not going to be easy for both teams but we will put the best foot forward. We aim to win at least a game in Mombasa to boost our chances,” David Maina, Equity head coach explained.

The dockers beat the bankers last year to claim the gong and as such the latter will be out to avert revenge.

The two teams recently represented Kenya in the Africa Championship in Mozambique where KPA finished seventh while the bankers came ninth. The two had earlier met in Africa Zone Five Championship in Tanzania where Equity defeated KPA to emerge champions.
