Football Kenya Federation (FKF) coaches instructor Twahir Muhidin wants the Government to resuscitate the collapsed football clubs in the sugar belt region, saying their contribution tpo football in the country has been massive.

Muhidin, who is also a Harambee Stars assistant coaches was speaking in Uriri Sub County, Migori – where he attended a training course of 50 coaches, a region that has no representation in the top tier leagues following the collapse of Sony Sugar Football Club.

“The collapse of football clubs is a major setback in the industry and it is sad no one seems to be bothered this is happening. Where do you take all the youth who were benefitting from the now defunct clubs? What about the kids who in a few years’ time would have joined the same clubs to shape their careers?”

Besides the players, the veteran coaches empathized with fellow coaches who are left jobless as the clubs close down, as it has happened with Sony, Chemelil, Mumias and the struggling Muhoroni.

With the sugar companies that have been sponsoring the clubs struggling to remain afloat, Muhiddin says a quick response by the Government which the main regulator will not only secure farmers’ interests but also football players.

Earlier in the year, FKF President Nick Mwendwa challenged the sugar belt clubs to seek alternative sponsorship to avoid total collapse, after most of them, by far, failed the financial criteria of the club licensing.
