Rising Stars, Tanzania share spoils in Uganda

Kenya’s Rising Stars was held to a 2-2 draw by Tanzania in their second match of the ongoing CECAFA U-20 Championships on Tuesday, at the FUFA Technical Center in Jinja, Uganda.

AFC Leopards forward, Austine Odhiambo opened the scores in the 26th minute as Tanzanian forward, Andrew Simchimba replied in the 37th minute, taking the match to the break at 1-1.

Upon resumption, Patrick Otieno restored Kenya’s lead in the 53rd minute, before Abdul Hamis’s equalizer three minutes later.

Kenya still tops Group B with four points as Tanzania remains second with as much points, albeit with an inferior goal difference.

Stars kicked off the CECAFA campaign with a 5-0 massive win over Zanzibar, while Tanzania sunk Ethiopia 4-0 in their opener.

Up next for the Rising Stars is a game against Ethiopia on Thursday, September 26, at the FUFA Technical Center, starting 4 pm.

The top three teams from Group A and B will join the top two from Group C in the quarterfinals.
