Rising Taabu cant stop dreaming

Mwamba RFC winger Daniel Taabu believes his excellent performance in the recently concluded National Rugby Circuit was the catalyst behind his call up to Shujaa’s provisional squad.

The Laiser Hill alumnus was named the MVP in the just concluded Circuit helping his team finish second and is thrilled by the prospects of donning a Shujaa jersey.

“I performed well throughout the circuit and also gave the best so for me I think that’s what interested the Shujaa selectors,”he said wearing a sheepish smile, his content clearly discernible as he eyes a new challenge.

Being picked as the Most Valuable Player in the circuit has given him more confidence so much so that he is confident of gate-crashing into the final 12-man squad that will be named soon for the Africa 7s.

“My team mates and the hard work I showed before the season started has been the pillar to my impressive season.”

Taabu says it’s a privilege for him to play alongside Kenya’s top try scorer Collins Injera.

“I feel privileged to play alongside him (Injera).Apart from being a player he has also been a coach to me giving me directions in different areas which has so far worked for me.”

Taabu’s breakthrough came in his final year at the famed Laiser Hill School where he helped his team win the National Secondary Schools Sevens Championships.

He has previously played for Daystar Falcons in the National Sevens Series in August last year before joining Mwamba RFC.

Shujaa are preparing for the Africa 7s set for October 13 in Monastir, Tunisia and Taabu will be hoping to make a cut for the trip.

After the Africa Sevens, Shujaa will return home to prepare for Safari 7s set for November 10 as well as first leg of the new season, Dubai 7s set for November 30.
