According to Kakamega County, Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) secretary Mathew Murunga, all is set for this year’s event that will also witness the introduction of rugby sevens for the first time in term one.

Murunga has however bemoaned the insufficient funds heading to the games.

“This time round we have a new event that is rugby sevens being brought forward to term one. Consequently, the figures available in our budgets is actually too low to host the event,” said Murunga.

The schools will square it out in various disciplines including rugby 15s and sevens for boys, basket ball, hockey and handball.

Kakamega High School and Butere Girls are the defending champions in basketball boys and girls respectively as Musingu Boys and Mukumu Girls hold the hockey titles.

In hand ball , Mukumu Girls and Mukumu Boys will be looking to retain their titles.

Other venues earmarked for the games are St Peter’s Primary School, Mumias Muslim Boys High School, St Mary’s Girls and Mumias Central Primary School.
